In the late 1990’s, Joe Gibbs Racing engine research and development
team, in trying to solve a problem with camshaft lobe and lifter scuffing,
discovered that the majority of modern oils commonly used for racing lacked
enough formulated anti-wear or extreme pressure additives to meet the
needs of flat-tappet V-8 push-rod engines operating at 9,000+ RPM. In
researching this further, JGR discovered that the American Petroleum Institute
(API) had begun reducing the levels of performance proven anti-wear additives
(i.e. zinc dithiophosphates) in newer oil specifications in response to
EPA and auto manufacturer’s goals of reducing auto emissions and
extending the life of emissions control equipment.
Joe Gibbs Racing Oil was created to meet the need for a high quality,
synthetic oil formulated with enough anti-wear additives to protect NASCAR
Nextel Cup (flat-tappet) and Bush Series (roller-follower) engines without
sacrificing horsepower. During the last seven racing seasons and countless
hours of dyno testing, JGR has developed an entire family of lubricants
with the necessary levels of advanced anti-wear chemistry formulated to
protect highly loaded racing engines from the initial break-in period
to endurance race conditions. These exact same oils and lubricants utilized
in all JGR racing engines are now available for your engine and race car.
All Joe Gibbs Oil products are sold only in Case (12-1 Qt.) quantities,
or as specified below. All prices do not include applicable shipping charges.
